As a Moderation Management–approved clinician providing care for individuals with alcohol and other substance use disorders, I understand that each person’s relationship with alcohol is highly individual, and so is their journey toward change.
I offer both Moderation Management and abstinence-based approaches to provide clients with flexible, evidence-informed options that align with their goals, values, and readiness for change. Some clients find empowerment in learning to moderate their drinking, while others seek the stability and clarity that come with full abstinence.
My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore these choices, gain insight into their behaviors, and develop healthier, more sustainable coping strategies. By honoring individual differences and meeting clients where they are, I strive to help each person move toward greater well-being, balance, and self-efficacy.

Moderation Management (MM)
Moderation Management (MM) is an evidence-based approach designed for individuals who recognize their alcohol use has become problematic but are not yet ready to pursue complete abstinence. This structured, goal-oriented method emphasizes personal accountability and informed choice, helping clients develop healthier patterns of alcohol consumption. By focusing on moderation rather than elimination, MM provides a supportive framework that meets individuals where they are in their readiness for change.
A key component of Moderation Management involves increasing awareness of drinking behaviors through self-monitoring, education, and reflection. Clients are encouraged to track their alcohol intake, identify triggers, and implement strategies to reduce both frequency and quantity of use. This process promotes insight into the factors contributing to overuse while equipping individuals with practical skills to manage cravings, stress, and social pressures. As clients gain greater control and understanding, they often experience a reduction in harmful consequences associated with drinking.
Engaging in Moderation Management can yield meaningful improvements in overall well-being. Reductions in alcohol use are often accompanied by enhanced physical health, improved sleep, mood stability, and better interpersonal relationships. For some, MM serves as a sustainable long-term approach, while for others, it can be a transitional step toward abstinence-based goals. In a therapeutic setting, Moderation Management supports a collaborative process that fosters autonomy, self-efficacy, and lasting behavioral change.
